A Riot of Chess Sets

The World Chess Hall of Fame is exhibiting eighty chess sets from the collection of Jon Crumiller, and they have posted a wonderful collection of images. Above, an eighteenth-century Italian set featuring good vs. evil.

The collection is particularly strong in Indian sets. Above, an early nineteenth-century set from Rajasthan.

An East Indian Company set from the 1820s or 1830s.

A Cantonese "King George" set in a special cabinet, mid nineteenth century.

A Javanese set, nineteenth-century. Many more here.
