Happy Solstice

Driving to work yesterday I was startled by a spectacular sunrise that burst forth in a heartbeat. One moment there was nothing but a dim gray glow, the next the sky was lit with bands of gold. I took this picture a few minutes later with my phone, back over my shoulder as I crossed the Patuxent River bridge. It made me thoughtful about the solstice and the light and power of a beauty to make an ordinary day into a celebration.
